Flow: Central Asian Video Art Programme hosted a special Artist Focus event with Almagul Menlibayeva, bringing together audiences for a screening and conversation centered on her long-term artistic practice.

The guest for the event was Almagul Menlibayeva, an artist born in Almaty and currently working between Germany and Kazakhstan. As the closing event of the Flow: Central Asian Video Art Programme, the session featured a screening of selected video works — Eternal Bride (2002), Steppen Baroque (2003), and Transoxiana Dreams (2011) — which introduced key themes present in her practice.

The screening was accompanied by an introductory presentation by Darya Kalembet, Assistant Curator of FLOW, who offered contextual insight into Menlibayeva’s work and its engagement with post-Soviet realities, feminist perspectives, ecology, and nomadic mythologies.

The event continued with a live video conversation with the artist, followed by an open exchange with the audience. Together, the screening and discussion created a space for thoughtful reflection and dialogue, highlighting the relevance and ongoing impact of Central Asian contemporary art today.
